In our last Q&A, you heard from Daniel Calderon, site director at our Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale data centers. This time around, we’re sticking with the South Florida theme and bringing you some insight from a Sunshine State resident who has an 18-year history with our network.
Soraya Moreno provides the latest on 365’s network integration and resiliency upgrade, and she offers some tips to South Florida businesses shopping around for network services.
Q: You started with Host.net in 2007, and have stayed with the team ever since – joining many of your colleagues in the transition to 365 Data Centers when the company acquired Host.net in September. How has your position evolved as the South Florida facilities became part of the 365 family?
A: I began my career in the data center industry in 2000 and initially focused on accounting and human resources, which quickly transitioned to service provisioning and interfacing more with vendors and customers. Over the last decade, my role has grown from managing billing and provisioning operations at a single data center location in South Florida to now managing 365 Data Centers’ network connectivity across 10 markets in the U.S. In addition to network connectivity, I also manage all vendor relationships, perform contract negotiations, provide sales support and ensure we remain compliant with service-level agreements related to service delivery and network availability. My current role allows me to work closely with all key functional areas within the organization, including operations, network and systems engineering, sales, accounting and our Network Operation Centers (NOC), to provide assistance and guidance in alignment with 365’s corporate mission and vision.
Q: What’s the latest on the network integration between Host.net and 365? What should clients expect from the new, combined network?
A: We are currently about 90% complete with the network integration rollout.
We have connected all of our data centers to the backbone that Host.net originally established and maintained. We have increased our capacity in all the major markets where we provide services. Customers can expect lower latency, more redundancy and private connectivity between our data centers and the 25+ PoPs (points of presence) within the U.S. We are able to provide all network, cloud, backup, replication and managed security services to all our customers within our serviced markets.
Q: We hear there’s a major resiliency upgrade in the works for the network over the next 18 months. Could you tell us more about that?
A: The South Florida market is vital to 365, and senior management has certainly treated it that way with funding for network and cloud infrastructure upgrades which will raise our competitive edge and quality of service even higher. Plus, with 365 as owner-operator, the upgrades and enhancements are swift and systematic. Jeff Slapp, our VP of Cloud and Managed Services, James Ashton, Director of Engineering, and I are in the initial phases of implementing a complete network refresh to keep up with the ever-changing market demands. Our focus for the next 6 months is to upgrade all of our field equipment in the Southeast Florida market, followed by an upgrade to the nationwide backbone scheduled to be completed within 12-18 months in order to increase capacity and resiliency on our network.
Q: Since you have so much experience with the South Florida data center space, what would you say to a local business shopping around for the best data center provider in the area?
A: I believe customers who are serious about protecting and securing their business critical data are searching for a data center provider who can offer them multiple solutions toward achieving these goals. With our certified data centers, robust and redundant high-speed network, private enterprise cloud environment, business continuity space in multiple markets, and backup and replication services, we offer our customers a variety of solutions for their technical needs all from a single point of contact. When a customer picks up the phone to speak with their service provider, I believe it is important that they are able to reach someone who is competent and capable of providing answers to questions across the entire service spectrum, and when necessary, to engage the appropriate personnel to ensure all the bases are covered.
